Children At Weddings

Some of my favourite images from weddings are those that catch children at their most candid.

They can produce images that tug at the heartstrings or make your roar with laughter.

Below are three of my favourites.

Who's That Girl?

So , deep hidden within my "Mummy" exterior lies a girl who likes things pretty.  Who likes things to be in their place, every little thing picture perfect.  Occasionally, I'll whip out the make up and play for a while. I remember the days when I wouldn't step foot outside my house in high heels and a full face of makeup.  And that was just to get some milk at the little corner store.

These days I'm comfortable with others doing the makeup and me working the magic behind the camera.  So you can imagine how delighted I was when Kristen turned up for a Make Over and Photoshoot.  It was just like playing and modelling my own personal Barbie.  This girl is stunning.  Don't believe me?  Then ask the tens of young men who liked her portrait on my Facebook Page.  When I featured Kristen on Facebook, my page reached over 10,500 people in a week!  As I said: this girl is gorgeous.

Even her before photo, that she took on her mobile before she had make over with Kristy from Affordable Beauty in Lismore is better than my made up face!

So here she is, the beautiful Kristen who will soon be featured on my page with many, many more photos.

Loved Up Portraits in Byron Bay

Two days ago I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Melanie and Sean at Tallows Beach in Byron Bay.

The days leading up to their portrait session were filled with rain and grey skies.  We were lucky to attract a beautiful day, warm yet not stifling hot to produce some lovely images.

When embarking on a portrait shoot with a couple (or anyone for that matter) I enlist my special techniques to make them feel utterly comfortable in front of the camera and to make all their expressions 100% natural.  This way, there are no fake smiles and no one looks like I have just extracted their fingernails without anaesthetic.  To be truthful, I loathe having my own portrait taken, so I am very aware that people feel uncomfortable in front of a camera.  I try to make them forget that there is a camera there; it's more like a fun day out then a portrait session.  And as a result I get some beautiful images to hand over to my clients.

My main goal when I take a portrait is to come away with an image that is full of impact and emotion.  I want the viewer to feel stirred, to want to experience that themselves.

In the above image, I explained to Melanie and Sean on the day that sometimes to get the most evocative images, you have to be willing to get out of your comfort zone and push the boundaries.  If that means sitiing in the wet sand and letting waves wash over you (the photographer knee deep in water) while a few interested tourists watch from the sidelines, then so be it. If it means a pair of undies full of sand, I'm okay with that too!  But how amazing does that image look?  How proud are they going to be to show it off and how jealous will their friends be?

You don't have to be model material, or an extrovert to get an image like the one above.  As a professional photographer I have techniques to help you feel so relaxed that you do let go of inhibitions, you don't care that you might get your clothes wet or dirty.  In the end it's all about nailing that most beautiful image of you ever.  I just want to see the look of absolute pride on your face whwn I hand over that image to you.  Everyone has to the right to feel special and beautiful and like a star.  I just help you a little bit to go towards feeling like that.
